What does 'Level of Finish' mean?
Customer satisfaction will best be realized by setting their ‘wall finish’ expectation; followed by identifying the right Level of Finish to suit that expectation. This should be identified at design stage of the house.
When applying plasterboard board there is a 'Level of Finish', which is a standard for specifying the quality of finish when installing and stopping plasterboard to obtain a flush result.
This standard should be used prior to application and is determined by a range of decorative finishes and how they look under different lighting conditions. How to achieve the level of finish you want

-
Level 4 Finish
Is the default finish used for plasterboard linings unless otherwise specified. Flat or low sheen paints may be used for this level.
May be used in ....
Critical Light - when light source is parallel to surface.
Non-critical lighting - when light source is spread and/or at right angles to the surface.
In critical lighting, surface imperfections may still be visible.Level 5 Finish - Skim Coat
Is used where there is critical lighting and flat, mat, satin or low sheen paints are used. Also where gloss or semi-gloss paints are specified.
Level 5 finish is hard to achieve and always requires the builder, plasterboard fixer, plasterer and painter to work together to establish appropriate workmanship quality, which ensures the delivery of the agreed paint finish.
Some very minor imperfections may still be visible in a level 5 finish, however these will be minimised.
